OCEANIA MARINA CRUISE - JULY/AUGUST 2019 - DAY 2

Skagen, Denmark
First excursion from the ship: Saeby & Voergaard Castle. A very 'livable' castle with beautiful grounds. Still used by the 'family' for vacations.
Lovely town with lots of stores for us to get some clothes (at more reasonable prices). People were wonderful.
Enjoyed the Main Dining Room for dinner and have decided to stay with the server (Anil) and his assistant (-name to be found-) for the rest of the cruise. They're from India and Anil acts like a caring mother - makes sure we eat our vegetables/gives us extra dishes to try - makes us feel very special. They don't mind Jeff's sense of humor (dropped the salt shaker and we 'convinced' them it was trying to jump overboard - this continued for the entire cruise.)

As expected, our luggage did not catch up to us in Oslo.
We proceed to the ship and board without incident. I checked in with the Reception Desk and filled out more paperwork regarding the missing luggage. (We are not alone in this issue...)

We proceed to the ship and board without incident. I checked in with the Reception Desk and filled out more paperwork regarding the missing luggage. (We are not alone in this issue...)
Oceania gave us:
- toiletry bags to tide us over
- 25% discount on any clothes we buy on board until our luggage arrives
- so we purchased enough clothes to wear in the main dining room
- they even offered a crew member's talent to shorten a pair of slacks for Jeff
- free overnight laundry for the one set of clothes on our backs
Silly us, we didn't have a change of clothes in our carry-on, but we had our medications and travel documents, so we just need to be patient and wait for our luggage to catch up with us.
Poor us - again - we went to the Terrace Cafe (buffet restaurant aboard) for dinner and had grilled lobster tails and more.
As usual, even though we've signed on for a 22 day cruise, it actually is a 12 day joined to a 10 day cruise so we're finding that very few of the passengers we're meeting will be here for the entire 22 days we'll be traveling.
Crew is very friendly - Oceania has removed their home country from their name badges (bad move in our opinion), so we need to ask each person we deal with so we can say Thank You in their language. Just another step, but well worth it.

Ride to the airport by Marcie (thank you!)
Check in for our flights - Boston to Newark - Newark to Oslo.
Board plane on time - sit on plane at gate for 3 hours.

You will not believe the start of our adventure. Our first flight was to be a puddle jumper from Boston to Newark at 2:00 pm
1. Bad weather in Newark, NJ delayed and then cancelled our first leg
2. Therefore missing connection to Oslo
3. United representative spent 90 minutes finding us a workaround
4. Had to reclaim our luggage (@ 7 pm by now)
5. We then had to walk (Jeffrey being pushed in wheelchair)from terminal B to terminal E to get ticketed on Icelandic Air
6 Flight is to leave at 9:05 pm
7. Takes until 9:00 to get us ticketed and bags checked in
8. Then, with Manager leading the way, we run thru TSA to the gate where they had actually held the flight for us
9. We change in Reykjavik (and are bumped to first class - I know, poor us) and then to Oslo to catch our ship
10. We’ve already been warned that our bags may not catch up with us (but we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it)

Life is Good.
Periodically you just have to stop dead in your tracks and count your blessings. Sure, we all have 'issues' that we have to deal with on a daily basis, but they need to be put into perspective so you can move forward.
Life is Good
We've got three vacations planned for the rest of 2019 - (not counting our January cruise which was so relaxing and WARM!!!) Some of our vacation we travel on our own - some are with other couples. Each has its' advantages - no disadvantages to either. I continue to say that everyone needs to find what brings them joy in life and then do 'it' as much as possible. Jeff and I love to travel. Sometimes it's a repeat visit to a favorite location; sometimes it's to new places that need to be crossed off our 'list'. Doesn't matter - we just love traveling and meeting new people and having unexpected adventures.
Life is Good
Our 'children' are all good people who have created great lives for themselves and their families.
Our grandchildren are (of course) amazing - brilliant, beautiful/handsome, loving!
Our friends are supportive and delightful to spend time with. I feel fortunate to have email/Facebook friends/acquaintances from all over the globe and love keeping in touch and sharing in their lives in any small way possible.
Life is Good
When challenges get tossed in my path, I try and remember that I've been blessed with all of the above (and more) and learn from conquering the challenge.

Batu Ferringhi, Penang, Malaysia - PART II

What an amazing day we had today. We joined the BNI Team Building Event - Ivan picked us up at 6:00 AM - We returned to our hotel @ 11:00 PM.
There were @ 40 of us on a beautiful bus - families - couples - singles - didn't matter - all together for a wonderful adventure together!
We had a huge lunch and dinner - photos not shown since I'd be salivating all over the keyboard...
We started at a fishing village and took a boat trip to see the village from the water.
We enjoyed watching otters playing
Then another stop to see the 'fish farm' where we got to feed them in their tanks.
Who could resist seeing horseshoe crabs?
And those poisonous puffer fish?
Then, back into the boat to see a huge flock of eagles feeding and flying all around us!
Next, a stop at a 'factory' that makes the most amazing charcoal. No, not briquettes - the real deal. They ship almost all that they create to Japan.
And, while in Asia - who can resist stopping at a Noodle Factory?
A stop to see these amazing carvings and stretch our legs, etc.
