Embarking on the Celebrity Flora in the Galapagos

Sunday, September 18, 2022

We had a short flight (under 2 hours) from Quito to the Galapagos Islands.  It was a charter flight and we felt like super-stars.  Celebrity even had a representative fly with us to make sure there were no issues and make sure we got from location A to B to C, etc.

The Celebrity Flora is a beautiful ship - there are just about 81 passengers on this voyage (maximum of 100) and over 100 crew.  All but 2 members of the crew are from Ecuador and you can see how proud of their country they all are.  Food is all locally sourced.  The crew is wonderful.  All you need to do is mention a wish and it's granted.

Today is our day to enjoy learning about the ship; briefings about what we'll be doing.  Each evening, just before dinner, we have an Excursion Briefing for the next day where the choices are described to us - gives us an idea of the level of activity so we can choose what we can do without taking unnecessary risks.

We've already made a connection with many of our fellow travelers, but especially Doc and Donna.  They've been friends for a zillion years and it's the first time for them to be traveling together.  So fortunate that our paths have crossed.

Dinner service tonight was wonderful (but we have learned that the beef in Ecuador is not the best - has to do with what the animals are fed.  Will be making other choices going forward)
